Know your numbers
Check your vehicle’s towing capacity, GVWR, and hitch rating before you shop. Never plan to tow more than your vehicle is rated for, factor in passengers, cargo, water, and gear.
Match the right hitch
Travel trailers, fifth wheels, and toy haulers each call for a different hitch setup. The correct weight-distribution or fifth-wheel hitch keeps the load level and stable at highway speed.
Load and balance
Aim for roughly 10–15% of the trailer weight on the tongue, keep heavier items low and over the axles, and secure everything so the load doesn’t shift on the road.
